Robert W. Carter, AIA, NCARB

Robert is a registered Architect and president of Studio R, Inc. a architecture and interior design firm. He has over 20 years of diverse architectural experience and has broad construction industry knowledge. He received a Master’s of Architecture Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where he interned with several architecture and design firms.

After starting his career in Seattle, Washington with Decker Fukui Architects with a primary focus on health care and university science building projects, Robert relocated to Dallas, Texas. There, he joined Three Architecture, Inc. as job captain for 3 years working on hospitality, office and residential design including international projects in Asia, Central America and in the Caribbean.

Robert made Austin, Texas home in 1994 where he first worked with Rogers & Perry Architects on retail, and library projects. Parkinson Field Associates employed him as their primary project manager in1996, the same year the firm relocated to Austin from Los Angeles, California. He was instrumental in establishing the new office known for historic preservation. He also became an active construction volunteer and coordinator with Habitat For Humanity for several years.

In 1997, Robert began working with Nelsen Architects, Inc. when the Arizona based firm was in the process of starting an office in downtown Austin, Texas. He became the head Project Manager and team leader at the firm for 6 years. During that time, he managed every aspect of project development for numerous high-end restaurant concepts. Some of the client companies he has worked with include Consolidated Restaurants, Inc. of Dallas, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouses Inc. Roy’s (OSI), Fired-Up, Inc. P.F. Changs Corporation, RAM International, and Z Tejas Restaurants.

He has been the sole proprietor of Studio R, Inc. in Austin since 2003. During that time he has been commissioned to work on a variety of commercial and residential projects in several states. One of the homes he designed in Austin will be featured on the AIA Homes Tour this fall.

Robert is a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, United States Green Building Council as well as being involved with The National Trust For Historic Preservation and Habitat For Humanity. He is dedicated to creating projects that incorporate cost effective, energy efficient and environmentally friendly design.
